Can Ancient Energy Medicine Help Mental Health Issues?
Exploring the Power of Qi Gong with Robyn Treen
At the online conference The Better Way for Mental Wellbeing, Robyn Treen will demonstrate the transformative effects of Qi Gong, an ancient Chinese medical practice.
“This simple practice can be a great help in mind wellness.”
Qi Gong is derived from two Chinese words: Qi, meaning energy, and Gong, which refers to work, cultivation, or skill. In essence, Qi Gong is the art of cultivating and managing energy to promote optimal health and well-being.
In a world where emotions are considered forms of energy and mental health issues often stem from negative emotional states, doesn’t it make sense to develop the skill to manage our energy system, emotions and mental health system? Robyn knows how Qi Gong offers a simple, accessible and powerful way to support mental health, particularly during challenging times.
Shibashi and the Legacy of Lin Housecheng Creator of the Taiji Qigong Shibashi system
Originally training with Blue Marsden at the Holistic Healing College in London, Robyn experienced a profound effect, wanted to learn more, and then was hooked wanting to share with others this exciting resource. Then was given the opportunity to deepen her practice under the tutorage of Fabrice Piché who was an indoor student of the Creator of Shibashi.
Lin Housheng, creator of Shibashi now in his 80s, had the goal of making this energy practice accessible to everyone, including those with mobility challenges. His pioneering efforts in energy medicine have allowed people worldwide to experience the profound benefits of Qi Gong.

The Healing Benefits of Qi Gong
Shibashi Qi Gong has been taught in hospitals across Asia, assisting patients in their recovery by fostering relaxation and well-being. Its beauty lies in its gentle, adaptable nature. Qi Gong can be practiced sitting, standing, or even lying down, making it accessible for all ages and fitness levels. Robyn’s clients range from young adults to a remarkable 96-year-old, demonstrating that Qi Gong truly is for everyone.
The practice aligns with natural healing principles: when the body is in a relaxed state, energy can be directed toward healing. Negative emotions, such as anger or sadness, deplete energy reserves. Have you ever noticed how exhausted you feel after an emotional outburst? Qi Gong replenishes and balances this energy, promoting emotional and physical resilience.
Key Benefits of Shibashi Qigong:
✔ Enhances flexibility, posture, and balance
✔ Deepens breathing and increases lung capacity
✔ Reduces stress, anxiety, and mental tension
✔ Calms the racing mind
✔ Boosts circulation and energy flow
✔ Strengthens muscles and joints without strain
Qi Gong and Emotional Health
Beyond its physical benefits, Qi Gong profoundly impacts mental and emotional well-being. It engages the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and supporting a positive mindset. Whether calming the racing mind, assisting in emotional resilience, or simply offering a moment of stillness in a busy world, Qi Gong is a valuable tool for navigating life’s challenges.
Bringing Qi Gong to the Community
Inspired by the People’s Health Alliance (PHA), Robyn has teamed up with other practitioners and established “Hearts of light” bringing local community events where people can explore Qi Gong alongside other alternative health practices such as Reiki, Reflexology and Breathwork. These sessions provide an opportunity for individuals to connect, learn, and experience holistic healing modalities, some of which they may never have encountered before.
With free or low-cost taster sessions, Robyn encourages everyone to enjoy a cuppa and a chat in a friendly environment, enjoying a space where learning about well-being is accessible, pressure-free, and deeply rewarding. For those seeking non-pharmaceutical solutions, this inclusive approach opens doors to self-empowerment and healing.
Qi Gong is a timeless practice, yet it holds incredible relevance in today’s fast-paced world. Whether you are looking to support your mental health, enhance your physical well-being, or simply find a moment of peace, Shibashi Qi Gong offers a gentle yet powerful solution.
